Rapha Women’s 100 — All the details last week and on the Facebook but please note that this has been reschedule to Sunday 5 October in deference to the less than friendly weather on the cards for this weekend.

Get involved!

Any questions feel free to get in touch with SPR Chicks Co-ordinator Claire Tyrrell at women@southperthrouleurs.com.au cktyrrell@gmail.com.

It is with much sadness that I write with news that Dale Groves lost his two year battle with pancreatic cancer last Sunday.

Those of you that have been with SPR for a while will remember riding fast group with Dale all the way back to the early days of the club. And whilst Dale was in many ways a private person (and certainly not very much into social media), SPR was very much a part of Dale’s life – in some quite significant ways, not the least of which being that it was how he met his partner Alison.

I’ve spoken with Alison, and she and Dale’s family would appreciate any that know Dale being part of the funeral next Tuesday.

Rest in peace Dale.

Tour de Cowaramup 2025 — The TdCowaramup is on again Sunday 12 October 2025; multiple distances/climbs and funds going to support local communities and charities.

Racing this weekend – If you want to race, or get in on the action watching others race, read on.

1. PDCC Peel Classic 2025

2. WCMCC Chidlow A – Graded Road Race – Winter Season 2025

3. MCC Pickering Brook #1 (21/Sep)

4. Ballidu Gravel (28/Sep)

Juniors Ride — Unfortunately, it’s looking like another wet weekend. There might be a window for a ride on Saturday morning, but the forecast is still uncertain. Right now, showers are highly likely. I’ll keep an eye on it and make a call closer to the day. Please stay tuned to the WhatsApp channel for any last-minute updates.

Besides that there are a couple of riding events coming up the juniors could be interested in:

  1. Pickering Brook Series #1 on 21/9/2025. Open to U11 – U17 as well. Registration: https://entryboss.cc/races/25581
  2. Ballidu Gravel race on 28/9/2025. The plan is to embark in the 40km ride. There was a group of SPR juniors last year who did it and we really enjoyed it, apart from the flies that were very annoying! Details about the ride are here: https://ballidugravel.com.au/rides/. The aim is to ride the “yes you canola” event. Ballidu is about 2,5 hrs north west of Perth. The ride starts at 1pm and we can plan a day trip to Ballidu.

From the Ride Coordinator — Consistent communication(e.g. highlighting potholes) during the ride helps with group coordination and contributes to the safety of the group. Where two groups get caught together at a junction let the front group pull ahead and resist the temptation to jump across. This preserves the group size that was initiated at the start of the ride and reduces the chance of a larger group forming, which is difficult for other road users to navigate around.
