yanchep beach criterium

10661915_10152521086492804_7404309925613150808_oso if smashfest was not enough racing for you, the week after is the northern beaches yanchep challenge.  there are races for all grades and juniors are split into age groups.  i will be making the trip up as ben now wants to do more racing.

northern beaches come down early to the smashfest races and not only supports the event by bringing lots of riders down, but have also organised the junior event that has grown so well over the past few weeks.  show your support for this club by heading up north for one of the last races before christmas.

spr & rccc criterium series – race 01 volunteers

the first race of our joint criterium series starts this sunday at technology park.  there are 4 races in the series (2 in december and 2 in january).  it aims to cater for a wide range of riders and has grades a-e including stand alone women’s a-c.  juniors are welcome to ride in d or e grade.

as an organising club, we need to provide some volunteers for this event.  unlike previous years, we have traffic management paid for this year, so we do not need to provide any people for that.

what we do need to provide, is 3 finishline judges, 1 tuck shop operator and 1 bbq person (part-time).

these jobs can be on a shift basis (i.e. you are helping before or/and after your race), or you can be available all day.

setup is at 7:00am and pack up should be around 11:45am.  if you are not coming along to race, then come along to help out.  the club will appreciate it.

put your name in the comments below if you are available to volunteer and let us know how long for.

national criterium championships

a few pictures from the national criterium championships on thursday evening.  the elite men’s and women’s races featured a few of the WA stars of cycling.  the u23 women’s podium featured jennelle crooks in third.  some of you may remember her as that 16 year old girl that used to ride in main 1 about a year ago.  she moved to q’land when she received a scholarship to train for triathlons.  well now she has jumped across to road racing and obviously is going really well.

upcoming criteriums

not the way to finish a criterium
not the way to finish a criterium

there are two criteriums over the next 2 weeks to test out your new years legs.

this sunday 6th, northern districts will be holding their criterium in lansdale.

check out the flyer here, registrations will be taken on the day.

on saturday 12th, northern beaches will hold their first criterium at yanchep.

check out the flyer here and you can register here.

put your name in the comments if you are looking at doing either of these so other members know who is going to be there.

race 2 – summer criterium series

the second race in the spr/rccc summer criterium series is on this sunday at technology park.  there will be 4 races from d grade through to a grade with series points to be accumulated across all 4 races.  this is a great opportunity for anyone that want to have a go at racing as it is a nice easy circuit with lots of spr support.

last week there was come classy racing with both the meyer boys as well as two women from the british olympic team.  spr also placed well with andrew claiming a win in c grade, luke taking second in b grade and amanda third in b grade women.

however, it is not just about racing, as we have some organising to do as well.  we need to provide people for the following jobs –

  • traffic management x 8 (two per race)
  • tuck shop
  • line judging x 3
  • set-up and pack-up (7:30am & 11:30am)

these races provide one of the clubs sources of income and also are the side of the club that other clubs get to see.  in other words, if we do these right, we get more money as more people will come and race.

costs for racing aren’t high ($10 for spr/rccc and $15 others).  day licences are available.

remember, if you volunteer for traffic management, you can race for free.  just make sure you don’t put your name down for the race directly before yours or there is no time to warm up.

please put your name in the comments if you can help out and what role you can take.

spr/rccc summer criterium series

it’s on again, a series of criteriums held at technology park in bentley.  this time we will be accumulating points across all four of the races to award a series winner at the end.  there are two races in december, one in feb and one in march.  there will be four grades including a d grade for people new to racing and want to give it a try.  there will also be 2 women’s grades run in conjunction with the b & c grade men.  this allows us to still award a series prize for the top women across all the races.

click the picture for more information.

as we will be helping run these events we will be looking at volunteers for each of the dates.  we have generally got this well under control as most people know what to do.  however, as an incentive, any volunteer that stands on a corner doing traffic management for a race, will get a free entry into their own race.

for anyone wanting to get a start in racing, then this is the perfect opportunity.  the circuit is only 1km long so you won’t get lost, and if you can’t hang on, then it isn’t far to make it back to the start.  there will be lots of spr people there to offer support and there will be day licences available if you don’t have a full race licence.

series page can be found using the top menu or through this link.

spr/rccc crit series

finishes like this make line judging so much easier

our first crit race of the season has been run and won and thanks to the volunteers from both clubs, it ran smoothly.  i have started up a page for the crit series with the results and finishline video from the day.  the videos are all running at 1/4 speed so you can judge for yourself what position you got.

the new page can be accessed from the menu above (under events and results) or though the link here.

rccc/spr crit series – race 01 (sun 18th dec)

this weekend will be the first of three crit races that we are presenting with the rccc at the tech park circuit in bentley.  for those that were involved last season, then nothing has changed and we will run grades a – d starting with d grade at 8:00am.  if you have never raced before and would like to give it a go, then this is for you.  nice easy 1km circuit means that if you do get dropped, then you only need to do one more lap before you can come home (rather than 45kms solo…from experience).

we will also need a bunch of people to help out on the day.  jobs include –

  • traffic management
  • timer
  • line judges
  • refreshments desk
  • set-up and pack up

if you can help, put your name in the comments below.  with enough volunteers it should be easy to race and then help out before/after your race.  with enough volunteers, it should mean that people will only need to man a corner for one race, not the whole day.  do your bit for the club and help out.
