I can’t believe the Dardanup Open
has rolled around so quickly…
This was without a doubt my favourite race of last year’s season!
The race takes you through the picturesque Ferguson Valley, up, down and around the rolling hills of the Southwest.
Check out last year’s write ups from Paul O and myself for a quick flashback.
This year The Dardanup Open will take place on Sunday 16 May
A course map can be found here and buy viagra registrations here.
Not to be forgotten is the 25 or 40km Participation Ride which is a perfect opportunity for ANY level of cyclist to come along and join the fun.
.
It is a bit of a drive down but well worth the effort. Carpooling would be a great idea so let us know if you need a lift or can offer
one to 1 or 2 keen SPR racers/supporters.
Let us know what grade you are entering in the comments.
A race pack will be posted closer to the date.

CALLING ALL MOUNTAIN BIKERS!!!
To
those of
us whose love of cycling extends to off road pursuits, there is a great event coming up…
The Enduro Mountain Bike Series has it’s first event on the 11th April at Jorgenson Park in Kalamunda.
It is a 4 hour event which can be done solo or in a team of 2 or 3 people
Suitable for ANY level of ability (and ages 12 and
up)
Scott and Dave from SPR will be there flying the colours and it would be great to see a few more.
Rumour has it that SPR brownies may be making a comeback appearance for this event…
If you are interested (solo or team) leave your name in the comments below.
Congratulations to all SPR riders who took part over the last 4 days!
Matty Upton (EHBS), Brendan Nichol (EHBS), Ryan Fynn (Broad), Julian Jacobs (SPR), Joseph Carreno (EHBS) in Support and Steve Hedley (Arbitrage) toughing in out with the big guns in Open.
I haven’t caught all the races but was happy to see the last couple of days.
Last night’s racing was certainly an exciting finish to the series. All the SPR support boys were in the first support race. Early on Joe (subbing for Brendan) threw himself bravely off the front in a self sacrificing act for his EHBS team. Matty (looking mighty strong last night) then went with a break of 4 off the front. They stayed a fair distance away for a couple of laps before what would become the decisive move of the race. Ryan surged away from the bunch and bridged up to the breakaway on his own… impressive considering he had come down the day before. Every SPR supporter was screaming their lungs out as he gave it his all to catch the break. Even Gary Suckling, who was commentating the race, couldn’t resist adding the comment “Ryan Fynn… so much natural talent, despite doing very little training”.
as strong as ever and kicked to the front easily to take out the Preme. He is
still overwhelmed by what to do with all 5 of the sports bars he won 😉
The bell goes with 2 laps to go and everyone goes into overdrive… the breakaway group strings out. Ryan is up
the front and hangs on all the way to the finish. 1st: Ryan, 5th Matty
Mustn’t forget bruvva Julz here, who has to get the gutsiest effort award for the series. On his own, wearing SPR colours he gave it 110% every race and had a smile on his face every time I saw him. Next year Julz… next year!
There were some other races with some dudes named Myer and Brown too…
Steve was going well in the open race but unfortunately lost his front wheel on a corner and came down just before he was preparing to move up.
Lorraine
convince you, so here’s what
I
would like for Christmas this year:
This weekend, 13 to 15 November, Perth will host Western Australia’s premier road cycling event. The Tour’s 4 stages will take place in central city locations, ideal for spectators. There will be several national and international teams racing against some of WA’s best bike riders over 3 days of quality racing.
Some of our nearest and dearest will be giving their all for this event:
Lisa
Wood, Nicole Sloan, Davina Summers, Bec Halliday, Anna Kauffman and Jill Scanlan will be in the Women’s lineup.
Brendan Nichol, Steve Hedley, Matt Upton and Jack Campbell will be in the Men’s.
Sunday will also see THE FESTIVAL OF CYCLING taking place at Perry Lakes. Perth Integrated Health clinic is the proud sponsor of the festival that aims to promote cycling in Western Australia. Amongst many activities and exhibitions there will be:
wanting to have a go). You can register here
SPR/South Perth Cycle Club is having a stall at the festival. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our club and promote ourselves to the cycling community.
If you have a few hours to spare on Sunday get your SPR gear on and come down and help spread the word. We will have lots of SPR drink bottles and will be doing some power testing to see how we match up to the pros. If you can help out on the day in any way please leave your name in the comments. SPR brownies will be provided for all
volunteers 😉
