Ride Routes 18 – 24th October

[ We have a new SPR Race Representative. WCMCC Dog Hill podium. SPR Chicks write-up. Plus Peaks, Tour de Blackwood, Nationals and Ride routes. ]

SPR Race Representative β€” I am very pleased to announce that the Committee has filled the role of Race representative which has been vacant for a few months. Members will be aware the club has felt the loss of our Race Subcommittee, and finding a replacement has very much been front of mind for both myself and the Committee.

However, keeping in mind that the circumstances that resulted in the resignation of the Committee were somewhat controversial and disruptive, the Committee was keen to have an experienced hand take up the role, and I am more than confident that we have achieved this outcome.

Please welcome Peter Mah back to the SPR Committee, taking up the vacant position of Race Representative.

Please keep your eye on the blog for updates and planning as we look toward the criterium season and the putting together plans and training targeting the Nationals in January (see our EOI here).

See you out on the bike.

Daniel

πŸ“Έ Yes, this photo of Peter does have a backstory.

Tour de Cowaramup 2025β€” Nineteen SPR members participated in the Tour de Cowaramup 2025 whilst others joined in for the activities either side. And there were a lot of the organised activities; dinners, Saturday morning ride; breakfast on the coast and of course the event on the Sunday: 140km, 88km and 60km – something for everyone. For the first time there was a tiny bit or rain – accommodation in Margaret River was perfect.

SPR Peaks Challenge 2026 β€” SPR currently have 10 people participating in the Peaks Challenge, Victorian Alps on 8 March 2026. Dave Morley is coordinating this with some eastern states cycle clubs of which there are another 10+ participating.

This will make it a well-coordinated and supported event with invaluable insights from experienced riders of this event – the ultimate challenge of 235km over 4,000 metres of climbing is some wonderful scenery. You can get more information and / or register your EOI here.

Tour of the Blackwood 2026 β€” Registrations for the Rotary Tour of the Blackwood River 28 March 2026 are now open. This is an excellent event, with a great community atmosphere and well-marshalled roads- definitely one to consider. If interested you will need to book accommodation as soon as possible as limited availability.

More details in our earlier post. Please register your interest and that of your partner via this EOI.

SPR Chicks Event – Nourish, Ride, Flourish β€” On Tuesday evening, SPR Chicks gathered together to hear from Tracy of Nourish 2 Flourish about general nutrition and fuelling to flourish in our cycling and everyday life.

The evening included understanding the new food pyramid, how to estimate optimal and sustainable calorie intake for ourselves, the different requirements for low-medium-high intensity exercise, and how to make some healthy choices that don’t need to be complicated (J.E.R.F).

Following the session, most ladies said their knowledge of nutrition had improved greatly and all ladies said it was very likely that what they learnt will influence their future nutrition and lifestyle choices.

Congratulations to Michelle who took home the voucher kindly donated by Perth Healthcare Centre.

Road Nationals 2026 SPR EOI β€” Everyone can be a part of this special experience – choose from the Team Time Trial, criterium or Gran Fondo – register your interest below!

Juniors Ride β€” The plan for this week:

Thursday: (not on Wed for this week), we will all meet at the DNA Tower car park in Kings Park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/uxf57ApGpUox7UXT7) for some hill training at 5.15pm.

Saturday: We can meet at the usual spot in Shelley (https://maps.app.goo.gl/oS5DuXC6ZyTK8NjL6) at 10.30am and we will ride the following course:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/409639124

It is a ~26km course and we need to pay extra attention when we cross High Rd. I aim to ride it in roughly 1 hour and 20 mins and we might stop at Lo Quay cafe for a treat after the ride. Beginners can join us for the first 4km of the course on Riverton Dr and then return back to the start point. There will be other leaders to escort you during the ride.
