saturday 22nd august – tv stations

kind of a ride report by peter.

another weekend off the bike for me as i just can’t seem to shake this cold.  two weeks of coughing and spluttering and a week and a half of no bike can be quite soul destroying.  anyway, i was playing “official photographer” today so with the young lad in tow,  followed the group around the course.

there were quite a few out and only a few brief showers along the way.  the group didn’t split and waited on wanneroo rd when dr greg got a puncture going through some roadworks.  pretty uneventful from my perspective (inside a car), but anyone else is welcome to elaborate on how the ride went.

  1. Ah yes my day went something like…. Late to start join on Mill point road, get wet and get wet some more, high heart rate all day, sooooo tired, finally started to feel good as we pulled up at coffee shop 🙂
Great pics Pete, god work 🙂

  2. I woke up at 6.30am (in Fremantle), figured I had a chance of getting to Coode Street and catching the group if they rolled out a little late.

Pulled into Coode St off Mill Point Road just as the group were rolling out. By the time I was ready to roll, Pete was pulling out onto Mill Point Rd in his car. I wasn’t sure if he’d recognised me, and hoping that he had, would motorpace me up to the group. No such luck.

Wasn’t at all sure where the ride was going and took off down Mill Point Road chasing Pete (in his car). Lost him around Graham Farmer Fwy and still not really sure where the ride was going took a chance on turning on the road that leads to Ascot (I recalled going that way once before).

As I made the left I caught sight of the group and managed to bridge the gap and make contact at the lights on Guilford Rd.

    Got wet. Avoided the paparazzi.

  3. The photo Hanging on in Dalkeith, Yes that is me,in my defence please see below.
    1) Pete I went hard to early!
    2) I had just dragged three riders up the hills in Dalkeith as you can see one was James the other two will remain nameless unless you need a skin specialist or a young accountant from Esperance!
3)I used a lot of energy taking the piss out of Greg while he changed his tube.
4)The blue on my lips is the reflection from the jacket of course.
    5) Just recovered from the flu, My doctor remarked how I was the first to survive this particular strain of the flu.
    Good to get out again.
Pete those photo’s you took of me for your personal use I want them back!

  4. Grade 2 tear of calf on Thursday meant no running for me this damp morning so on the bike I was and off for my first Sat group ride in over 6 weeks. I was hoping calf would go ok with cycling, meaning I could do the sportif on Sunday which it did. I was hoping I would manage to hang onto the bunch when the pace picked up which I did so a successful outing on the saddle..

Other than that, pretty uneventful (besides waving at the camera). I tested legs and did the majority of work through Dalkieth and Mounts Bay road (after chasing down Kimbo whose premature charge was hampered by a slow moving car, sorry KIMBO) I thought seeing as I was not allowed to sprint I would try the Domestique thing out. Lost the sprint for first time since Judd pipped me over six or so months ago which was a hard pill to swallow, even if I was not allowed to sprint.. I will be back 🙂

I managed to keep the calf feeling ok on Sunday as well during the Sportif and the A team did a great job of working as a team and we managed to come home with the fastest time of the 40 teams in A by over 3 minutes. Good work team we did good 🙂
