    Still abit dark overall for me personally, needs more of our green but that’s just my opinion

    Nico, agreed. Reflective strips aren’t PRO at all, lights are the way to go, plus they come with the added bonus that they help YOU see others, but then again i guess we’re lucky(?) that we get to wear fluoro clothing to work, complete WITH reflective strips (is it jealousy?) AND reflectice helmets!! Perhaps i’ll start wearing that gear on bunch rides.

  3. @ Scott, I don’t think we need to do reflective strips/ stiching. If you are riding when there is low light and you do not have lights on then you are a fool. Reflective strips et al won’t make you any safer if you have lights (I have three red on the back. Helmet, Seat Post and Seat Stay).

    @Pete. Great Job. The only thing I might say is that NetPlus might want their white background as per the initial design. I think that it stands out more and that they would be a happier sponsor if this was the case. (Read…more likely to responsor in two years time)

    Also, there are free spots on the back of the shorts, the side of the jersey and the leg and arm cuffs. If we are approaching potential sponsors, what sort of fee are we charging/negotiating for those spots?

  4. I personally preferred the previous version, the back at the top just doesn’t quite look right to me. It looks more disjointed than the previous version.

    However, I appreciate all the effort which has gone into the designing (I would never be able to do anything like that myself) and the hard work getting the sponsors on board.

  5. Jonny made a good point about old kit and compatibility. Not everyone may be prepared to buy over all the gear and accessories (even with discount). So the closer the new kit can merge with old the more continuity there will be.

    I agree with Stuart and Brendan, and think there should be more white. This will also help my previous point. My suggestion would be to use the old colour scheme for the area in front within the red female-body-like silhuoette. Bright green on the outsides fading into white where the zipper is (instead of black currently). The V-abs will then need to be solid black along with the SPR text colour (Dome will still stand out). These greens will then match the back, more white will be added, plus it will look somewhat more similar to the old design (but overall darker).

    The black NetPlus looks much better than the white. It looks more integrated to the rest of the jersey. I like it.

    The image is a good guage of how it will look on the street from other people’s perspective (in terms of size and boldness) and to me, the South Perth Rouleurs on the back is too small and hard to read. A suggestion would be to make it SPR in really BIG BOLD letters. Bigger than the Conva Tech. With South Perth Rouleurs on the front and legs, SPR would suit the back nicely.

    Hopefully these are helpful suggestions that the majority agree with. In any case, I’m sure all are looking forward to getting the new gear! Thanks for giving us the chance to comment.

    ps. Can we get a supplier that also does SLIM FIT (smaller chest, longer length) for the skinnies in the group?

  6. Thanks for all your effort in design Pete. I think the design is much of a muchness with the second one not really making a huge difference with regard to visibility/coolness.

    My only comment is to do with the “V” abs on the front. I personally think the true jersey design would be much more visible if these were removed all together. Also maybe a brighter green could be utilised front and back?

    Also as it is a “club” jersey I would recommend anyone who rides with us regularly to get on board and support your “club” by purchasing a membership, even if it is a social one. Show your true support for the club that does so much for you!

  7. To clarify… although NetPlus would have stood out more in the previous version, Pete and I agree that a more integrated look is much nicer.

    So long as the logo is in flouro radioactively reflective paint πŸ™‚

  8. @everyone – Please remember Petes comments on the initial design. Summer is hot for 2-3 months of the year. We wear this kit 12 months of the year. We wear this kit in the mornings in summer usually when the sun is NOT at it’s hottest so black/dark should not be an issue. I have worn a black jersey and some lighter coloured ones during the hotter months, and it is still hot no matter what the colour.

    Another comment would be, “we need to keep the black so that we are warmer in winter, so more black.”

    Visibility – If you want to be visible during low light conditions then put on lights. No jersey will make you more visible than when you have lights on. Most people have lights on their bikes anyway.

    @Jen – Your point is noted about the integration of old and new, however, if I was a sponsor and saw SPR on a group ride and there were “Specsavers” jerseys mixed in with “ConvaTech” jerseys, I would not be a happy sponsor. We need to think along those lines as this is where we are getting the money from. We need to encourage our members to get on board with the new kit and new sponsors. They are paying for the advertising, we need to provide that advertising opportunity to them to keep them happy.

    @Chris_a agree with your comment re “Club Jersey” $86/yr and you can be a club member thus giving you the ability to wear the “club” kit. No Membership, No Kit.

    This design looks impressive and professional (both things I am sure the club want). These are just my opinions, and I am not part of the committee. Lets leave it up to the committee to decide (as our elected reps) on whether the design is the best one for the club.

  9. I like it. Tre kool, no?! It’ll stand out in a race, and it’ll look good in a bunch. Everyone will want one. The only issue with visibility for motor vehicle drivers is when you’re out in your own. But these drivers would have hit you whether you’re in fluro kit or not. As for heat retention, probably an issue late am/afternoon in height of summer (so probably the hills ride on Sunday & late races) – just need to suffer short term to look good (like girls with their heels). We need to be proactive and look ahead, rather than follow the Europeans – let us be at the fore-front (leaders?) of world cycling fashion.
    I think it should be available to anyone who would like one (I am a club member). One it provides additional revenue for the club, more importantly it’s marketing. It tells people that we welcome all – no questions asked, as long as you obey the club rules. If a non-member sees fit to buy a kit, then he/she will likely become a member.

  10. PS… Boo to reflective strips. So geeky. Why not leave the reflector strips on the wheel spokes too. How about the reflector ankle straps and blinking LED body-sash?

  11. PPS…. Pete & design committee – I think you guys have done a wonderful job with the design. I’d upgrade to the new kit regardless. I agree with previous blogs about a better quality chamois. Able to get one without internal stitching? I don’t enjoy riding with butt cream – feels like a wet diarrhea.

  12. My voting:
    Blacker 1st (5th?) version from previous post – preferred.
    2nd black with more white version – still good.
    As far as the white goes, our rides and races are in the early mornings year round and overheating is never that much of an imminent threat. If it is good enough for Sky…
    Reflective strips/stripes/sewing – No.
    We ride/race (mostly) in daylight hours. Riders can augment their visibility with their own devices according to their own needs. No need to force that on others.

  13. I would have to echo Mike’s sentiments re preference on the jerseys.

    i.e. Blacker is better and no reflective stripes.

    Jen and Mino bring up an interesting point though…should we be looking to “rebrand” ourselves as just “SPR”?

  14. K..now that i’ve just paid for a membership, can chime in. The colour’s cool. No to any hi vis type stitching as I can just put my Ground Effect Vespa on if i want that “extra” bit of “see me please”….We’re moving targets no matter what time of day. It won’t make a difference when I wear it on one of my Audax rides as i have to wear the vespa anyways.

    The only thing i’m worried about are the arrow bit at the front-for those of us who aren’t a size 2, it may make us look even worse. Another reason to get fitter :).

    Do the jerseys have an elastic waist?

  16. While I think I preferred Version 5, I like the green on the back as it provides a nice continuation between the old kit and the new one.

    That said, I think the committee (or just Pete) need to make the decision on this and be done with it. You’ll never get consensus amongst all the members.

    Also, I’ll take 3 of everything πŸ™‚

My 3cents worth… It does seem to be an evolution of the previous SPR kits, which walks the line between being the same and being ‘too’ different, and IMHO your never going to please everyone, but i think everyone will still see the kit as SPR, so job done. I think reflective (zipp, stiching, banding or whatever) is just a nice extra. No ones ever been hit on a bike because of reflective strips on their shoes/socks/kit etc, so i think its a good idea. Now, is there any options when it comes to chamois? Maybe a regular or a super gel air bag one for those of us with no buttocks, for extra $? Anyway, its looking good, so bring it on.

    Oh and with the shorts can we print the tape measure on the inside of the shorts where we can make better us of it……….I think I may have just opened myself up for some abuse….

  20. Great work….I like it a bit more. Here are my suggestions (just in case there aren’t enough already!)
    1. Are we still looking for sponsors for the sides and sleeves. Could be put “South Perth Rouleurs” on them OR make “South Perth Rouleurs” on the back bigger and put the back sponsors on them to keep their exposure the same?
    2. Can we put the “Convatech” without the white border like on the number 5 version?

  21. Yep looks good. I feel its a little dark but will go with what ever you decide. I can see that the sponsors logo’s will look better on the black background.
    * Will the netplus logo be ok with the fine type accross the pockets? It may get lost.
    * As for any “safety” stitching I am happy to not have it but think it’s a good idea. Yes your all right about lights and geekiness but I’d rather be a live geek than a dead “thinking I look cool in lycra” dude. I’m with you Scotty. Anything that may attract a drivers attention is a great idea.

  22. I think the design looks great and I’ll get one regardless. I have tried doing this type of thing myself in the past and it’s not easy. My 20 cents;
    +1 reflective stuff, can be done to look fine by day, and bright by night under light. More visible means more chance of living…..
    +1 whiter the better. Not everyone rides or races in the morning, and I like the old one.
    +1 similar to old kit. Not everyone will want to, or afford to upgrade right away or at all. People will continue to wear the old kit.
    +1 kit for anyone who pays for it
    @jorgy yes $86 isn’t too much but then you add it onto $145 MTB membership, $240 for Tri membership and a few race entry fees and things are getting pretty expensive even with value add.
