Thursday Morning Ride – EOI

This morning was my first mid-week ride with the group since May. To my suprise, I kept up well (although apparently it was a slow ride today) but I knew if it were to go significantly faster, I would be in trouble. I was talking to Shaw at the beginning of the ride and we started talking about making a Thursday ride that wasn’t a smash fest. This way, he and others wouldn’t need to go with the Bell Tower Group.

So, does anybody want to go for a ride on Thursday morning? We’ll start from the usual place (Under the Narrows, City side) at the usual time (5:30am). We can either go round the river (like a Tuesday) or follow the Fast boys and girls on their Thursday morning ride.

  1. if you follow the same route as the fast group you can then pick me up when i get dropped. it has been a regular occurance of late. didn’t even make it to the uni a couple of weeks ago.

  2. If I remember rightly, there WERE two Thursday groups. I distinctly remember riding around the river with @jordanbrock in a Transition group AFTER the fast group had taken off. What happened to the Thursday Transition group?

    1. Yeah, the transition/main group became smaller and smaller, and then the few of us that remained ended up heading out with the fasties, only to be crushed.

With the summer upon us, I definitely think there’s a need for a return to the 2 level Thursday rides.

  3. Maybe we could arrange a kind of swimming badge system (50m, 100m, 250m, 500m)for how far you can stay with the fast group on the Thursday ride. We could sew them onto our lycra and wear them with pride.

  4. PS – the rating system goes:
    1. Broken before the Bridge
    2. Busted by the Brewery
    3. Dropped in Dalkeith
    4. Cracked at Christchurch

  5. Thanks for the ride guys! Did you guys miss the V8 Falcon which left the Freeway just at the bottom of the Narrows, went through the dividing fence and bushes and ended up on the bike path? It was sheer dumb luck he didn’t kill anyone at 7am.

  6. Ah Actually it was 6.30 and if I had have been a minute earlier he would have cleaned me up. I was riding to work and just saw all this debris on the path, then people running from the freeway (including a nurse on the phone to the Ambo’s). I then saw the blue falcon sitting where it shouldn’t be, in the middle of the bike path. The guy got out of his car and just looked dumbfounded. I recon he fell asleep and crashed. He had one of the signs firmly attached to his bonnet, so if that had have been a cyclist or pedestrian on the path at the time….well it would not have been pretty.

  7. Ride was great this morning. Was a group of Main1+2 riders. We picked up Jamie later than expected so good work. Ask the rest what badge you get. I hope the Thursday group remains.

I have my suspissions the Bell Tower group was a little down on numbers today.

  8. Great ride this morning! Just shows how strong our club can be when a simple blog post can get so many people out of bed! Glad no one was involved with that incident.

  9. He was a moron and it could have been very nasty. However, it was partly our fault. I was at the back and I could see he was getting frustrated as the group was riding all over the road rather than sticking to the designated cycle lane on the road on Hackett drive. We can blame drivers but we have to be a bit careful when riding in a group otherwise we might regret it one day
