ride routes 6th & 7th august

jumping on a jet plane wednesday for a flying visit to brisvegas.  back late thursday night so i am trying to be tricky.  i have written this blog up on tuesday night and am hoping to get it to publish at the right time on thursday.  so, a number of possibilities could occur.  firstly, it may actually work and publish at 18:00 thursday.  secondly, it may publish now (being tuesday night).  thirdly, i get back from brisvegas to an inbox full of “how come the ride routes are not on the blog???” “is there a ride on this weekend???”  etc, etc, etc.  lets hope the technology doesn’t let me down.

preston point road – about time we talked about this.  see the previous posts.

road racing – this weekend marks the beginning of the “spring classics” in perth.  there are a number of races that are on now that winter is starting to fade and between now and the end of the year there are about 2 races month.  if you are looking at pinning on a number, then come and join us.  there are a few of us racing in pinjarra this sunday.  also, spr will be running the golden spokes again in november so get training as we would like to see as many spr riders we can out there.

ride routes – looks like saturday might be the only nice riding day all week.  take advantage of it.  as there was no ride last sunday (well i was there, but where were you???) we will do the same ride route again.  a few of us will be at pinjarra racing in the rain so make sure you know the ride route.  hint – kalamunda, chook, observ, aldersyde.

  1. Can help out with the Trannies this week as rumoured to be racing on Sunday (another long, wet ride to go with the others).

  2. Just so everyone is aware, small accident on the Friday Ride this morning. IMO it was caused by the roll through not being consistent. The slow line was slowing inconsistently causing everyone to brake quickly flowing down the line and causing an accident. Luckily, no one was badly hurt, unlike the Motorcycle rider that we passed with the Ambulance in attendance.

So just a reminder to all, that when in a pack, try to keep your speed constant, and try to avoid the sudden changes in speed, even just stopping pedaling when on the front can lead to a chain reaction of sudden slowdowns towards the back.

Lets all remain upright for the weekend. Good luck to those racing at Pinjarra.

  3. Another note on safety. Aside from the bingle, it was disappointing that the first “group” to finish Shelleys did not show much interest in pulling over and stopping to wait for their fellow riders who were only a minute or so behind. Strange, since a regroup at this point always happens on the Friday ride.

Whilst it might be ok to leave stragglers on the Tues river loop since the roads are relatively traffic free and safe for riders to complete a ride on their own, the Friday route which is largely on highways, in the dark and with rush hour traffic looming, is not safe for solitary riders. So can we please make it a rule to PULL OVER and regroup properly after Shelley’s to ensure all riders have been collected? We should have a duty of care to one another; SPR is a riding family which puts safety first, and it’s not nice to subject one of your riding pals to a solitary ride on highways in rush hour traffic.

OK, I’ve stepped off my soap box. Let the weekend begin!!

  4. Agree with Lennie. I blew up on the rollthrough and then managed to drop my light. I was thinking there would be a regroup but had to chase to Albany Hwy amongst traffic.

Also, my 2c worth on the crash. It was a crash with no one to blame, but I find that it is important to observe what other riders do, and try to know how they ride. If a particular rider does not keep consistent line or speed during a ride, perhaps give him / her more space. Even have a quite word to him / her in that event.

    1. Back in my day people would just yell and swear at me depending on how bad I was. Also learnt quick to put my wheel on the left side of the one in front so it didn’t get shredded by anyone’s cogs like Ben Hur during sudden braking.

Anyway, sounds like no one was seriously hurt which is good.

Then there was that time with the gumnut on the road…..

  5. I actually thought by the time we got to the lights at Willington everyone had caught up because we rode oh so slowly between Shelly and there. Yeah we did pull a mighty big gap and the pack did thin on the way down Shelly but I did think we had everyone back by the lights.
