uci masters race – 16th april

bit of an update for this race.

registrations are now open and more info can be found here.

the course has changed slightly from what was posted and the distance is now saying 107km in total.  8 laps around the kings park circuit that has a slight detour into the park.  i will update the wednesday earlybird route to reflect the course change.  there are not many events that we get to race in our age category, so make the most of this one and get training.  you have about 8 weeks.

  1. Thanks for the update, Pete. The course gets more like the Tour de Perth route every day; something in it for everyone. I still don’t like the thought of that turn at the bottom of Kings Park Drive, especially in a big/mixed bunch situation.

  2. The Forrest Drive to Park Avenue left hander tightens as you go into it, so it has to be taken wide.

Kings Park, Wingfield or Crawley Avenue turns are pretty bad. I think there will be carnage.

  3. UCI checks out Road and TT Course

We hosted the UCI in Perth this weekend for a reconnaissance of both courses for the World Cycling Tour. We have passed with flying colours. UCI were stunned by the sheer beauty of the time trial course on Rottnest, and appreciated that the best way to see it for the recce was a leisurely cruise around on mountain bikes (graciously loaned by BWA members) on as Saturday morning, bikes being the only option as cars aren’t allowed on Rottnest.

UCI delegate Justin McMullen, who spent some time in Perth in the early nineties, was particularly impressed with the quality of the road course – city centre location, visiting Kings Park on the fringe of the city, and our ability to work with the authorities to close roads for the race.

So the UCI flew to Perth.. had a few jugs on the ferry and at the Rotto pub.. didn’t see the road surface on Malcolm St and in Kings Park and we’re all set for the road race.

Perhaps next time they’ll chose UCI delegates who don’t live in the Ardennes forest !

  4. Hi all,

Had a chat with Mike B. about doing full race distance a couple of times before the race in 4 weeks time. It’s not too much longer than doing Early Bird + Fast/Main rides.

If we start at 5.30am at the Narrows and then do the 8 laps / 120km.. we should be finished about the same time as every else heads to the Cafe.

Want to make sure I have done the correct training and have a good energy plan.
